Submission to the Senate Standing Committee on Economics
February 2023
The NTAA has provided a submission to the Senate Standing Committee on Economics in relation to the proposed ‘Skills and Training Boost’ and the ‘Technology Investment Boost’ that are contained in Treasury Laws Amendment (2022 Measures No. 4) Bill 2022 - this Bill is currently before the Senate.
In particular, the submission has drawn to the Committee’s attention two issues of concern:
- Expenditure will not be eligible for the Skills and Training Boost (an extra 20% deduction in addition to the actual cost incurred) in the circumstances where the employer reimburses an employee for expenditure incurred by the employee in the first instance.
- The inability of an employer to claim the Technology Investment Boost for expenditure incurred in providing fringe benefits to its employees, particularly as a result of salary packaging.
Look out for our seminar discussing the boosts, which will be available in early March 2023.
